The recipe for an ideal nap

Spread the love

Do you like to doze off a few minutes after lunch? If this little break in the day does you the greatest good, it still has to be done in good conditions. For this, researchers have published a study in the journal Obesity where they list the commandments of a successful nap.

To reap all the benefits, scientists recommend naps that are neither too long nor too short. Indeed, the best would be to respect a rest period less than 30 minutes to increase productivity. In addition, for an optimal restorative effect, it is recommended to sleep for a few minutes on your sofa and not to settle in your bed. According to this study, the researchers also encourage taking this nap at noon or early afternoon rather than in the middle of the afternoon.

Watch out for naps that are too long

“For example, we recommend preventive naps of 10 minutes for someone with narcolepsy and patients with sleep apnea should also take a nap to be active; insomniacs are dying to take a nap, but they can’t,” the researchers note.

The consequences of too long a nap can be numerous for health, scientists have found that those who took naps longer than 30 minutes had a body mass index (BMI) higher by 2% and an increased risk of obesity by 23%.
