Pornography: young Ile-de-France residents exposed from the age of 10, according to a study

Ten years is the average age of first exposure to pornographic content in Île-de-France. This frightening figure comes from a study commissioned by the Île-de-France region and carried out in 2020 by the Institute OpinionWay.

The survey was conducted among 250 Ile-de-France minors aged 15 to 17. She reveals that 46% of minors have already encountered pornographic content and 27% watch it regularly. Almost all of these regular consumers do so via their smartphone.

According to the region, “the generalization of the smartphone has been accompanied by a reduction in the control of content viewed by young people”, and “parental control is now underused by adults”.

The study also indicates that many minors are exposed to porn against their will “ via pop-ups, advertisements or simply on social networks”. They are also exposed to it through their peers, who tell them about what they have seen.

“Easily accessible with just a few clicks on any smartphone, pornographic content has become a vector of sex education for many young people, thus promoting a distorted view of romantic relationships, ”details the study. “This early exposure to adult content trivializes acts of violence, domination of women and exacerbation of virility. »

Furthermore, pornographic films also encourage risky behavior since they “disregard any prevention message on sexually transmitted diseases and infections and almost systematically have unprotected sexual intercourse. »​​​​​​

Faced with the magnitude of this problem, the region has launched a prevention campaign against the dangers of porn. An Instagram account titled@pas_la_refwas notably created to talk about the abuses of the industry.
