Pierre-Olivier Costa sees his loyalty to the presidential couple rewarded. Brigitte Macron’s chief of staff will leave the Elysee Palace in November for Marseille, where he will chair the emblematic Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilizations (Mucem), the Ministry of Culture announced on Sunday.

Special adviser to the president, former chief of staff of Emmanuel Macron at En Marche, he was appointed by the President of the Republic, on the proposal of the Minister of Culture, Rima Abdul Malak.

Having worked for the Paris City Hall, notably as deputy director of information and communication, Pierre-Oivier Costa “spent a long part of his professional life at the Réunion des Musées Nationaux, where he held various responsibilities (Direction of communication, photographic agency and acquisitions department)”, details the ministry. “He has also worked with the presidents of the Center Pompidou and the Center national du Cinéma”.

At the Mucem, he “intends to consolidate the territorial anchoring of the museum”, “its actions for priority neighborhoods” and also plans to weave “new collaborations that respond to sensitive societal facts”, such as biodiversity and “fragility”. of the Mediterranean in the face of global warming.

Pierre-Oivier Costa will also have to “strengthen the links of the Mucem with the other shore of the Mediterranean”, specifies the ministry, evoking what is the DNA of this solar place which has become a must in the city, particularly known for its building in concrete mesh by architect Rudy Ricciotti. He will succeed Jean-François Chougnet, president of the Mucem for eight years, shortly after the opening of the museum in 2013, the year Marseille was European capital of culture.
