The deputies Stéphane Peu (PCF, Seine-Saint-Denis) and Stéphane Mazars (Renaissance, Aveyron) will look into the framework of an information mission on the “economic and social benefits” of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris (from July 26 to August 11, then from August 28 to September 8), in order to be able to “assess the stated ambitions” by the organizers and the State.

“Commitments have been made to the country in terms of economics, integration, environment, infrastructure, heritage, and it is the duty of the Assembly to have an assessment mission” in view “stated ambitions”explained the communist deputy during a press conference, Wednesday, October 19, at the Assembly.

The two deputies said ” happy “ to host the Olympic Games, because it can “to be a beautiful moment of national communion but that cannot be decreed”. “Our mindset is to assess and make recommendations”explained Stéphane Peu.

Asked about the feelings of the inhabitants of Seine-Saint-Denis in relation to the Olympics, a department which has been promised a legacy as well as jobs and contracts for VSEs-SMEs, “we cannot say that the country and Seine-Saint-Denis are enthusiastic about the Games”. “At the same time, is it abnormal a year and a half before the event, not necessarily”added Mr. Little.

He explained that there was currently in the department, in particular because of the work of Grand Paris, “accumulations of work that create a lot of inconvenience and inconvenience”. Their mission will have “a mobility component”he specified.

The mission will not be limited to Seine-Saint-Denis, where approximately 80% of material investments are concentrated “There are also the metropolitan places where the Olympics will be practiced”said Stéphane Mazars, who will also look closely at the Terres de Jeux system, a label given by the organizing committee to territories.

The mission will last six months and there will be a “pre-report” in February 2023, specified the two deputies, that is to say when the second Olympic law should normally arrive in Parliament.
